Israel Jerusalem Demolitions Drive

Girls from the Matar family sit near the rubble of their home that housed 11 people before it was demolished by Israeli authorities in the Jabal Mukaber neighborhood of east Jerusalem, Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023. For many Palestinians, the accelerating pace of home demolitions is part of Israel's new ultranationalist government's broader battle for control of east Jerusalem, claimed by the Palestinians as the capital of their future state. Israel says it is simply enforcing building regulations. (AP Photo/Mahmoud Illean)
