Plymouth, MN: As Vinyl Art prepares to bring to wind down the celebration of their milestone of 40 years in business, the flexible packing manufacturer estimates it has generated a collection of more than 5,000 dies used to create products for customers. It’s one way to measure longevity and success, but Vice President Tim Hitchings notes that many of these dies have been used multiple times for a variety of products.

“We’ve definitely been able to create flexible packaging solutions for more than 5,000 customers,” says Hitchings. “It’s kind of like how you have to do the math to translate human years to dog years. There’s a multiple involved. But that’s a huge advantage to our customers because it means we can repurpose what often is the most expensive part of a custom job to drastically reduce the price.”

Throughout the year, Vinyl Art has looked through the stories attached to the dies and extracted a series of case studies that provide insight on how the company partners with customers to help create packaging solutions that are both unique and cost-effective.

Available to the public on the Vinyl Art blog, these case studies range in subjects from the Beanie Babies® and salvaging a book publishing disaster to camera case improvements, pocket combs, and tile wall coverings.

“We’ve had an amazing collection of customers,” says Executive Sales Director Rob Slattery. “It’s been interesting to see how the products we create for them have changed over 40 years. For example, we’ve gone from producing diskette holders to flash drive holders. Our technology has changed along the way, too. Our latest production machine actually uses ultrasonic technology for sealing.”

Vinyl Art’s clients range from large retailers needing point-of-sale and merchandising material, to financial and healthcare organizations looking for ways to creatively present and protect presentation material.

The company will enter its fifth decade of business well prepared for what lies ahead. “We’ll produce your product from start to finish in the time it takes for an overseas competitor to move it from their factory to a seaport freight yard for shipping,” says Slattery. “Made in the USA doesn’t mean it has to cost you more.”
